Action, Inc. (NRCA) is a proponent of self-sufficiency: A Hand Up, Not a
Hand Out is its goal. Community Action was established over thirty-five
years ago by Congress as a centerpiece of the War on Poverty. The goal
of Community Action is: to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income
communities and empower low-income individuals and families to become
fully self-sufficient. NRCA holds the conviction that poverty and hunger
are not acceptable conditions in communities and believe that ending
poverty is an attainable goal through joint community efforts.
