Description
- SmartMoney was founded by two ministers in 1988, following banking deregulation.
- Between 1978 and 1986, eleven banks, S&Ls, and thrifts left the Over-the-Rhine area (just north of downtown Cincinnati).
- The only financial choices for the people in this neighborhood were pawnshops, loan sharks, and rent-to-own stores.
- SmartMoneys mission is to provide affordable financial services and economic education to underserved individuals in Over-the-Rhine and other urban communities.
- Through a partnership with Cincinnati Central Credit Union, they have not only been able to educate people about smart financial practices, they have been able to show them how to put their new financial goals into action!
