Description

Sager Brown is part of the United Methodist Church and serves residents of St. Mary parish through the following programs:

HOUSING REHABILITATION

- Is a program for St. Mary parish residents who live in unsafe, unsecured, and unsanitary housing due to storm damage, termites, normal decay and their inability to afford the cost of repairs and normal up keep.

UMCOR Sager Brown has repaired over 3,500 homes and built 21 new ones in St. Mary parish.

The survival of this valuable program depends upon the contribution it receives from it's volunteers. Handicapped, Senior citizens and single parent households are top priority.

There is a waiting list. Application is required and recipient's financial help is required.

FOOD FOR SENIORS/MOMS

- this is a federally funded commodity supplemental food program designed to provide nutritious food to low income seniors, mothers with babies up to 1 year old, and children 13 months to 6 years old. Once a month each eligible person receives a 40lb food package containing canned milk, meat, fruits or vegetables, cereals, fruit juices, potatoes, rice or pasta, and beans and peanut butter.

Seniors must be 60 years or older and meet income guidelines.

Families

- new moms for one year and children from 13 months to the 6th birthday.

Application required.

MEANS TO RECOVERY:

HURRICANE RECOVERY funds can only be accessed only through a caseworker.

If you do not have a caseworker, they urge you to contact your local UMCOR/Katrina Aid Today consortium member in order to be considered for receiving this help.

NOTE:

It is not guaranteed assistance; a caseworker decides if you qualify.

After the qualification period, your case is presented to the Long Term Recovery Committee.

Remember, the key word to use when speaking to your caseworker is HURRICANE RECOVERY.

Also, please emphasize all the positive things you've accomplished such as:

you have a job (they won't help you if you don't have job), and let them know if you feel you've made some progress but still need some help. Let the caseworker know you're really looking forward to having someone guide you through these last steps to recovery.

UNCOR (337-923-6238),
