Description
SMILE provides
- emergency food and medical assistance (no pain medication),
- counseling and referral services,
- emergency crisis assistance programs including weatherization,
- commodity food program,
- emergency utility assistance,
- transportation (there is a $6 charge in Iberia Parish,
- $8 in Lafayette an $10 for wheelchair (in or out of the parish));
- if client has the Medicaid card, they must go through Medical Dispatch and Medicaid will pay for trip charges for medical appointments), and other services.
The office also is an enrollment center for Medicaid.
Transportation is available to Lafayette.
SMILE New Iberia Family Shelter provides housing for single parents or married couples with dependents for a maximum of four to six months.
Four families with 5-6 children are housed.

I have recently moved into a home on French Street. In the process of turning on my utilities I was told by lawco that I have to pay for a 542.00 bill but the worst part is it's services that were put on in my name but not by me. I have filed an identity theft report but it still doesn't stop me from having to pay what lawco needs me to pay in order to have water.
