Legal Services of North Florida offers advice and counsel over the phone to eligible callers in a variety of areas of the law, primarily cases such as consumer, public assistance benefits (SSI, SSID, food stamps and TANF), landlord/tenant problems (especially evictions), and family law assistance in cases of abuse. No criminal or traffic violation cases are handled. Disaster relief services may be provided to persons who have suffered legal problems as a result of tropical storms. Calls are answered by volunteers. If a volunteer is not immediately available, callers should leave a message and will be called back to determine if they are eligible. After that, an attorney will call them. Following the telephone conference, clients may be sent letters confirming the advice given, along with written materials pertaining to particular legal problems. The Tallahassee office serves Leon, Jefferson, Franklin, and Wakulla Counties. An additional website address for tax help is www.taxserve.org.
