Description

The Florida Commission on Human Relations investigates complaints of discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, human trafficking, Whistleblower violations and anyone HIV+ experiencing discrimination in the areas of employment and housing. The commission counsels individuals, municipalities, and businesses but does not investigate federal agencies. Employment complaints must be filed within 365 days of the date in which the alleged act of discrimination occurred. Housing complaints must be filed within 1 year of alleged act. Complaints filed with the EEOC (federal agency) must be filed within 300 days of the alleged act in order to meet EEOC timeliness guidelines. Should that deadline be past, complaint can still be filed with the Florida Commission on Human Relations within the years deadline. The Commission is comprised of 12 members appointed by the Governor for a 4-year term.
