Description

Angel Flight Southeast is a non-profit, volunteer organization involved in "public benefit flying".

They arrange and provide FREE air transportation for those with medical or compelling human needs.

Air Charity Network the national network consists of 5 independent regional organizations.

Members of Angel Flight Southeast provide access for people in need of FREE air transportation to specialized health care facilities or distant locations due to family, community or national crises.

While most trips are limited between 100 to 1,000 miles.

American Airlines:

Miles for Kids in Need:

  • American Airlines provides transportation for medical purposes for children 18 years of age and younger.
  • Letters from both the child's doctor and a referring organization (medical institution, charitable organization or church) must be submitted for approval.
  • Call the program office for detailed information about the required contents of the letters. Review can take up to 4 weeks.
  • Children requiring oxygen can be accommodated on American Airlines but not on the smaller American Eagle planes
  • The family is responsible for the cost of the oxygen, and the airline's Medical Department requires a prescription from the child's physician.
  • This national program is limited to one trip per child.
  • The approval includes tickets for both parents/guardians. Contact this organization at 1-817-963-8118 Ext. 4. Continental Care Force: Continental Care Force provides tickets on Continental Airlines for critical medical needs, regardless of age or disease. The individual must be financially needy. Tickets are limited to the patient and possibly one family member, if someone is needed to go with the patient. Availability may be limited by resources. With 48-hour notice oxygen tanks may be provided, but cost is the patient's responsiblity. They can be contacted at 1-281-261-6626 24 hours/day. Corporate Angel Network: Corporate Angel Network (CAN) is a nonprofit corporation designed to give cancer patients in need of transportation the opportunity to use empty seats on corporate aircrafts. Adult patients must be able to walk in order to qualify for the service and they must be traveling to an approved cancer treatment center (listed with the American College of Surgeons or the National Institutes of Health). Infants or small children who can be carried are appropriate. An adult may go with the patient, if required or appropriate, and there are no financial requirements or limitations on the number of trips. CAN is unable to transport patients requiring oxygen tanks and/or other medical equipment. Their toll free number is 1-866-328-1313 or access their Web site at www.corpangelnetwork.org. NPATH (National Patient Travel Helpline):NPATH is a central clearinghouse for referrals to charitable and special discounted patient air transport services for medical purposes, based on an evaluation of the patient’s needs. They also have listings of air ambulance companies for those patients requiring medical attention while traveling. They can be reached at 1-800-296-1217 or at their Web site: www.patienttravel.org. Operation Liftoff: Operation Liftoff is an independent non-profit organization providing transportation through American Airlines and other carriers for children 18 years of age and younger with life-threatening illnesses. When specialized treatment is required from medical specialists at health facilities distant from the home of a child, Operation Liftoff provides air travel for any qualifying child and both parents. Children requiring oxygen can be accommodated with advance notice. Processing usually takes 4 weeks, but can be done on shorter notice when resources are available. The application is available on the Operation Liftoff Web site. Contact them at 1-314-298-9770 or www.operationliftoff.com. Southwest Airlines: Southwest Airlines assists in transportation for medical purposes. The options available are (budget permitting): assistance with complimentary air travel for the patient and caregiver gift certificates discounted fares, which include waiving advance purchase requirements. Requests should be made at least 5 days in advance by letter (faxed or mailed) explaining who the patient is, why the travel is necessary, when the appointment is, the times of travel and from and into what airports. The patient letter must be sent with a letter from the doctor explaining the medical condition, why the patient or caregiver is traveling, whether it is okay for the patient to travel, and whether any special equipment (such as a wheelchair) or assistance is needed. They are unable to provide transportation to patients on oxygen. Contact them at 1-214-792-4103.
