1001 Howard Plaza Tower NOLA 70113.The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is the Federal agency responsible for national policy and programs that address housing needs, improve and develop communities and enforce fair housing laws.
It is illegal for anyone to refuse to rent, sell, or make a housing loan to someone because of race,religion,sex, or national origin.
Major programs under HUD are:
- Community Development Block Grants (CDBG);
- Section 8 subsidized housing; Homeless assistance;
- HOME Investment Partnership Act block grants;
- Fair housing public education and enforcement; and Mortgage and loan insurance through FHA.
In addition, HUD provides housing counseling through local HUD-funded housing counseling agencies and offers Homebuyer's Kits for first-time homebuyers.
