Emergency Assistance They assist individuals and families in crisis situations by providing vouchers for limited assistance with utility bills, rent, gasoline, bus tickets and lodging for one night. They also help with food from their Food Pantry and give referrals to local thrift stores for clothing.   Home and Hospital Visits Volunteers and staff visit and offer companionship and prayer to those homebound or in hospitals or nursing homes. They also deliver The Salvation Army War Cry Magazine and/or Bibles to these individuals. “Carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2   Services to the elderly The New Braunfels Salvation Army Advisory Council Members supervise and participate in an exterior house-painting program for elderly low-income homeowners. This is a joint community service project that they carry out with churches and service groups.   Ministries and Outreach Programs Adult Life Skills classes held at the New Braunfels Service Center include Bible study, sewing, stitching and handcrafts. Other adult seminars are budgeting, money management, women’s health, nutrition and self-image. Children’s classes are offered in Bible study, money management and various special topic programs.   Seasonal Programs During the holiday season, they provide food boxes for families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These aides receive annual disaster training to qualify for the relief work they do in representing The Salvation Army. Several Advisory Council Members attended local disaster drill training from the Comal County Emergency Disaster Services at the Sheriff's Command Center. This supplemental and important training prepares their as first-responders in the event of a terrorist attack and they stand ready in any way necessary to meet these needs of their citizens.   ..
